DUNCAN G. BYERS
Attorney at Law • Patent Attorney


Duncan Byers is the founder and principle of Byers Law Group.  He focuses his practice on general civil matters and litigation in the State and Federal Courts of Virginia and in the United States Patent and Trademark Office, with a specialty in intellectual property. In his intellectual property practice, he works to assess, procure and protect the inventive and creative property of his clients in either an individual or business setting. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in the electrical, mechanical, and chemical areas, provided patent and trademark opinions and prosecution, assessed patent interference issues, cleared and prosecuted trademarks and service marks for clients, and represented clients in infringement matters.

Mr. Byers has litigated matters in the General District Courts, Circuit Courts, and Supreme Court of Virginia, as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Mr. Byers was awarded his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Chemistry from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.

Prior to entering law practice, Mr. Byers spent nine years in the United States Navy, including active duty on two guided missile destroyers based out of Charleston, South Carolina and reserve duty with a helicopter squadron based out of Norfolk Naval Air Station. He spent several years working as a commercial and industrial electrician, and has nineteen years of experience as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician.
 
While working towards his Bachelors and Masters degrees, Mr. Byers conducted trace metal research in the main body and tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. He has worked in the Northern Virginia office of a large multinational firm in the intellectual property group. Additionally, he has worked in the patent examining corps at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a current member of the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Norfolk and Portsmouth Bar Association the United States Patent and Trademark Office Society and the I'Anson-Hoffman American Inn of Court.


JEFFREY D. WILSON
Attorney at Law • Admitted in VA and Texas

Mr. Wilson counsels clients on a wide range of labor and employment law issues. He focuses on helping employers avoid costly litigation and agency actions before they happen. He also represents businesses in litigation, arbitration and mediation of employment law disputes, such as Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, WARN, NLRA, workers' compensation, non-compete agreements, employment contracts, employment torts and ERISA retaliation cases.

Mr. Wilson has experience representing clients before Federal and State courts, the U.S. Department of Labor, the NLRB, the EEOC, and various state agencies.

Before going into private practice, he served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Jackson L. Kiser, U.S. District Court Judge for the Western District of Virginia. Mr. Wilson is licensed to practice in Texas and Virginia.

He earned his B.S. degree from James Madison University and his J.D. degree from Washington & Lee University School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Wilson served as a staff writer and lead articles editor of the Washington & Lee Law Review.
